ARTES Members had a wonderful time in Madrid visiting the range of exhibitions on offer in a very short three-day period! Members started off the trip with a visit to the Anders Zorn (1860-1920) exhibition at the Fundación Mapfre, where the curator of the exhibition, Casilda Ybarra, gave her personalised insights in a private tour.
After a fabulous Spanish lunch, we then moved onto the Juan Muñoz (1953-2001) exhibition at the Museo Nacional del Prado, where we saw many politically charged and fascinating sculptures.
We finished off the day with a visit to the Museo Reina Sofía for the Maruja Mallo: Mask and Compass exhibition to see many exciting, surrealist paintings. After dining late with the Director of the CEEH, José Luis Colomer, we met the next day at the Museo de América for the ‘Pintura cuzqueña. Centro y periferia’ exhibition, where we saw many devotional paintings and objects produced in the Viceregal period in the Cuzco School.
We sincerely hope that even more members will join us for the next ARTES trip abroad, as it is such a rare opportunity to get to know one another and celebrate Spanish & Latin American art of all periods.
